Kolka
Spiced Carrot Ale
When brewery from Estonian and brewery from Latvian are brewing together it’s only natural to look toward Livonia. Sklandrausis is a sweet pie with Livonian origin, made of rye dough and filled with potato and carrot paste and seasoned with caraway. And if this does not sound like great beer idea, you do not know craft brewers.
What about lighthouse? Well, it’s a gem hidden in the sea, north of Kolka. You should visit it.
Experience: Deep red beer is covered with a thick layer of beige foam that disappears quickly. Aroma is intensive and spicy. Molasses, rye malt, dark caramel, and crispy carrot pie.
At the beginning of the sip, molasses are dominating the palate with an added kick from sweet carrots and added spices.
In the end, intense flavors are slowing down, and that’s left is black rye breed with a dash of caraway.
